5 Senses Through Architecture

28cm x 36cm, Pen and Ink, 2018.

This artwork represents each of the 5 senses through buildings. Each building has a slight twist to it such as the leaning tower of Pisa adorned with a cherry on top or the Sydney Opera house with music notes on the side in order to emphasize which of the 5 senses the building represents. This project tested my skills working with pen to create a highly detailed scene. I learned various useful techniques for working with my selected medium and practiced thinking adding symbolism to my work.

Building a World Together

53cm x 69cm, colored pencil and ink, 2019.

This collage piece represents the relationship between my dad and I and how it has developed through time we spent working on my car. The project is a collage with colored pencils, pens, and photographs I took of my dad and I. As the artwork is rotated, the scene seen is changed. This part of my artwork was inspired by Cinta Vidal Agullo’s “Caravan.” The artwork takes an abstract turn with a variety of car-related elements wrapping and emerging from behind the car similar to Nicola Lopez’s art.

From Another Point of View

51cm x 72cm, Marker and Ink, 2019.

This artwork is a collage piece. The center image is a photo, colored in certain areas, from a place I visited in Cuenca Ecuador. This piece is about the interaction between people and street art. Some people dislike it, others simply admire it and perhaps snap a photo of it, some disregard it or don't know what to do with it. Others like the woman at the top of the piece in the red embrace the art which transports them to another fantastical and wonderful world of imaginative freedom.

Una Vida Magica

61cm x 81cm Acrylic on Canvas, 2019.

This artwork was inspired by Ecuadorian magical realist artist Gonzalo Endara Crow who paints in bright colors like Ecuadorian natives. I decided to make my project as separate panels that join together to form a unified artwork to show how separate elements from my Ecuadorian and American cultures come together to form my culture. The piece is filled with symbolism from each culture like the butterflies which represent liberty or the orange which represents the sweetness of family connection.

Sheepherd

46cm x 61cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2019.

My inspiration for this artwork was the relationship between shepherds and sheep. I reversed the roles between these two groups and gave the sheep power over the shepherds by increasing its size which turned an animal from a follower into an independent creature. The shepherds had no purpose and some even began to amass and follow the sheep. My style was inspired by realist painter Anton Mauve who was known for his accurate portrayal of depth through the use of light and color.
